Aerobics
Aerobic exercise can be defined as physical activities which improve the oxygen system within your body. Aerobic literally means “with oxygen” and refers to the utilisation of oxygen in your body’s metabolic process. Aerobics by definition is exercise carried out at a moderate level of intensity for extended periods of time.
Both the term and the specific form of exercise were developed by Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper, an exercise physiologist in the 1960’s. He used the term Aerobics to explain the exercise he designed to help prevent coronary artery disease. Dr Cooper initially designed an aerobics class for astronauts, then realised that his Aerobics class would benefit the general public with the intention to prevent obesity which can lead to coronary artery disease and other heart complaints. He put all of his knowledge and experience into a book in 1968 which launched the Aerobics Class worldwide
