Kettle Bell Class
Vitality is very pleased to be able to offer a Kettlebell class for both members and non members. Exercising with a Kettlebell has proven to improve core stability as well as peripheral strength and overall stamina. A Kettlebell workout can also use up a very large number of calories. It is researched that a (conditioned) person can burn up to 1,500 calories an hour. (Compared with approximately 600 calories running on a tredmill).
The Russian originated Kettlebell (‘Girya’ in Russian) is an iron hand weight shaped like a cannon ball with a handle. Although many people assume this is a new form of exercise, the first recorded documentation of the Kettlebell was in 1704 within a Russian Dictionary. Training with Kettlebells achieved recognition in 1913 for an outstanding weight loss tool as they were featured in the fitness Magazine – Hercules, and in 1985 the sport of Kettlebell lifting was created and the first National Championship for Kettlebells was held in Russia. Therefore giving the Kettlebell a long and proven record of its effectiveness. In 2010 Kettlebell instructors are achieving excellent results in weight loss and improving muscle bulk by introducing the technique into the form of an exercise class.
The Kettlebells centre of gravity is extended beyond the hand, therefore allowing the swing movements which are not possible with the conventional dumbbells. More muscle groups are activated during the swinging motion in the primary movement and the muscle stabilisers compared with the action of lifting dumbbells, leading to a more effective workout, yielding better results in less time.

It tones and strengthens from the core to the peripheries, increases flexibility, improves balance and spatial awareness. Our Qualified Kettlebell instructor will work with each individual in starting you with the correctly weighted Kettlebell, progressing you in exercise technique and Kettlebell weight when necessary.
